Lydia Govender

I know that finding your way through life’s toughest chapters can feel overwhelming. My goal is to provide a space where you feel truly seen, safe, and heard. As a counsellor with over a decade of experience, my heart is genuinely set on walking alongside you as you navigate trauma, grief, or major life changes. Together, we can find the path toward healing and resilience that feels right for you.

Healing is a deeply personal process, and my approach to therapy has been shaped by the diverse and often challenging environments in which I have served.

Before making New Zealand my home, I worked extensively in South Africa. There, I supported individuals and communities facing the profound impacts of crime, domestic violence, and complex trauma. Working in high-risk and under-resourced environments taught me the true meaning of resilience and the vital importance of crisis intervention that is both immediate and deeply compassionate.

A significant portion of my career has been dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual abuse, including children, adolescents, and adults.

I understand that trauma doesn't just affect the mind; it impacts one's emotional, psychological, and relational world.

As a former Child and Adolescent Clinician, I have also specialized in therapeutic interventions for young people. By working closely with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams, I strive to create a circle of support that ensures every young person has the safety they need to heal and thrive.
